Mudita Magazine: a seasonal publication filled to the brim with handy tips, personal quips and wellness resources. In a sense the new version of the Farmer’s Almanac, Mudita spends months prior to publication gathering recipes, spotlights of local artists and wellness organizations, opinions on the best source of composting and sustainability and anything else a Milwaukeean might consider to be labeled as the yogi lifestyle.
Mudita started just over a year ago, right before the pandemic began. Emily Porter and her Co-Founder Stephanie Krubsack met at a yoga instructor’s convention and hit it off right away through their shared desire to immerse themselves in everything yogi. “Yoga is just a continuation of movements that help quiet the mind,” Porter said. “The stretches and movements aren’t the goal, they are just tools to get to that state of clarity and peacefulness.”
If we were to continue this concept, then a yogi lifestyle does not need to focus just on the activity of yoga. Instead it can include anything that lets your mind slow down. Writing, hiking, cooking, gardening, artwork, meditation, and more are all apart of the yogi lifestyle. For instance, Porter herself is a photographer, and a certified herbalist, and Krubsack a plant-based chef. Porter and Krubsack wanted to create a resource showing everything related to being a yogi, and thus Mudita was born.
The term Mudita, means to take delight in the happiness of others. These articles are meant to be shared with friends and family, to help each other find a little more happiness. Additionally, for every magazine purchased, Mudita gives 2% of their sales to a charity in need, the current being World Central Kitchen so make sure that happiness keeps spreading. Although they haven’t been around for very long, Mudita already has big plans to grow. “Originally, Mudita was meant to include classes and workshops, maybe even have a brick and mortar store of our own,” Porter said. “We are looking forward to continuing those ideas at a larger-scale soon.” Right now Mudita has two virtual classes, Moving with Mudita and the Mystic Kitchen, both free and available on their instagram page.
